The exhibition ‘Drawings in Gold’ has been specially planned to take place during a period of a visual renaissance - the year in which Liverpool is the European City of Culture.

Internationally renowned jeweller and sculptor Wendy Ramshaw has been producing stylish and exquisitely made cutting edge work for the past 40 years, from wearable creations to architectural metalwork, including gates for the V & A and St John’s College, Oxford. This recent body of work is composed of ‘drawings’ translated into precious metals.

Surprisingly, there has never been an exhibition of Wendy Ramshaw’s work in Liverpool although some of her jewels are in the prestigious collection of the National Museum of Liverpool. These include one of her personal favourites, ‘Beams of the Moon’, a silver gilt sculptural neckpiece that quivers as the wearer moves. “Creating a halo around the head and shoulders, it lifts the image and apparent spirit of the person who wears it”.

Wendy Ramshaw will give the Annual Garner-Medwin Lecture 2008 on Thursday 23rd October from 2.30-3.30pm. Tickets are available for £3.95 (£2.95 concs.) pre-booking is advisable. Call the Bluecoat Display Centre for tickets and/or further information.
