| | | A research and networking weekend that will aim to playfully explore and debate the effect of the European Capital of Culture status on its recipient cities. In collaboration with Redwire Studios, The Royal Standard will play host to artists and groups from past, present and future Capitals of Culture including Glasgow, Vilnius and Istanbul, along with cities that were short-listed but missed out on the award. A programme of collaborative tours, participatory events and social activity will punctuate the weekend, mapping and engaging with the city's official and unofficial culture and informing an ongoing process of discussion and debate which will culminate in a public panel discussion. A unique artists conference comprising tours, networking, an artists information resource, exhibition and a panel discussion. Our current exhibitions, NAVIGATOR and Mr Democracy will remain open to the public over the weekend, so if you have not yet had the chance to visit this will be an ideal opportunity.

From Friday, 25 artists will arrive in Liverpool to explore the Capital of Culture. Through their investigations and the experience of The Royal Standard and Red Wire we will discuss the opportunities and meaning the title has for artists. Many of the attending artists have links to other Capitals of Culture including Glasgow (1990) Vilnius (2009) and Istanbul (2010) and as such will make a valuable contribution to the debate.
Attending artists will contribute artwork and information from their own cities to an artists resource which will be held at the Royal Standard and open to the public.
